Living Desert University offers art classes to inspire the creative side in all of us. Below you will find just a sampling of our talented Art instructors!
Cash Baxter
His interest piqued at age three by his beloved journalist/painter grandmother, Cash became the youngest student of Chicago Art Institute's Roy Keister. At age 14, Baxter was invited to spend time studying with master illustrator, Norman Rockwell. At Southern Methodist University, where he exhibited in university shows, he studied painting with Jerry Bywaters, a founding member of the 1930's pace-setting artists, the "Dallas Four," and was given two one-man shows by The Shuttles Galleries. His work now appears in galleries and private collections throughout the U.S., Germany and South Africa.
Cynthia Britain
Past President, Founder and Signature Member of the Laguna Plein Air Painter's Association, Cynthia began painting in oils and took art lessons at the Orange County Art Institute while in high school. She's studied at the Putney Art Institute in England, and later at Fullerton College and UCLA. Inspired by Impressionist and contemporary Plein Air Painters (including Joaquin Sorolla, John Singer Sargent, Berthe Morisot, Marion Wachtel, and Edgar Degas) , she studied with Ted Goerschner, Kevin Macpherson, Kim English, Scott Burdick and Peggy Kroll-Roberts.
Kathy Dunham
Internationally known, Kathy has taught all levels of drawing and watercolor at venues such as the Palm Springs Art Museum, Los Angeles County Arboretum and led groups on week long plein air workshops. Instructor for several cruise lines and president of the Coachella Valley Watercolor Society, Kathy holds memberships in Watercolor West, American Society of Botanical Artists, La Quinta Arts Foundation and The Artists Council of the Palm Springs Art Museum. Kathy's beautiful watercolors have won numerous awards and hang in both public and private collections across the United States.
Darr Sandberg
Early on, Darr showed a huge interest in art. He fed that interest throughout school, but simple economics meant that graduation was followed by other gainful employment. Throughout his twenties, Darr continued to make art, fortunate to have access to life drawing classes and Golden Gate Park for botanical studies. Health issues, exacerbated by the stress of being a workaholic programmer, forced Darr to change course; allowing him to pursue his love of drawing and painting, focusing on "the interplay of deliberate form with ecstatic accident."
