Student Programs at The Living Desert

School Field Trips
An Adventure in Education!

The Living Desert provides an introduction to desert ecology to thousands of school children each year.

Field Trips have the following exciting options that include our regularly scheduled storytelling, live animal encounters, Wildlife Wonders Show, Village WaTuTu, hands-on Discovery Center and our desert play land, Gecko Gulch. Picnic areas are also available.

  • There is no time limit, stay until the park closes if you'd like.

  • Wildlife Wonders Show features an up-close and personal look at some of our fascinating animal ambassadors at the Tennity Amphitheater (the show is subject to cancellation in hot or inclement weather).

  • Groups of 15 or more are invited to book either a Zoo Zone Field Trip or Docent Guided Tour.

  • Zoo Zone Field Trips are available Monday through Friday, priced at $6.00 each for students grades Pre-K through 12 and $9.00 each for adults. (Qualified groups will receive a discounted rate for the adults based on the number of students that arrive of 2 adults per 10 students at $6.00 each.)

  • Docent Guided Field Trips are $6.00 each for grades 1 through 12 (subject to availability) and are offered Monday through Friday.

  • Educators may make arrangements to visit the park in advance to finalize lesson plans at no charge.

  • Coachella Valley Public Schools K-12 may apply for a Scholarship to help pay for entrance fees. Click here to download our scholarship application.

  • We offer free parking.
