Primitive Garden

Living fossils … the Coachella Valley has not always been desert. In other geologic eras it has been ocean floor, ancient desert and inland sea. In the garden there is a chart that shows estimated emergence of life forms based on fossil evidence.

The plants in this garden are living fossils; they have changed very little from their ancestors that lived with the dinosaurs. Plants preceded animals on land by about 150,000,000 years. Their presence provides animals with food and oxygen.
