The Living Legacy Campaign

WHY AN ENDOWMENT FOR THE LIVING DESERT?

An endowment fund is made up of donations to a non-profit organization that help to sustain the organization for the future. Unlike most donations, which are for current operations, donations to the endowment fund are structured so that the principal amount is kept intact while the investment income is available for use by the charity.  All gifts to The Living Desert are important, but endowment gifts ensure a permanent and reliable source of funding; this is especially beneficial in times of economic downturns or in the seasonality of our audiences here in the desert. A permanent endowment effectively eliminates the uncertainty inherent in financial planning for nonprofits.

The Living Legacy is appropriately named because it’s assuring the long-term sustainability of The Living Desert. Endowment gifts will guarantee that The Living Desert will not only survive, but thrive, mirroring our vision for our planet’s deserts and wildlife! It began in 2012 when a group of visionary leaders at The Living Desert knew it was time to plan for the future by securing the financial health of the institution. The Living Legacy Endowment Campaign was launched in 2012, achieving more than $20 million from private and public donations in 2015.
