7:00 am - 7:00 pm
Members $110, Non-Members $130
Join Living Desert staff for a boat ride and half-day naturalist guided tour of Santa Cruz Island, in Channel Islands National Park. Close to the California mainland, yet worlds apart, Channel Islands National Park encompasses five remarkable islands. In its vastness and variety of flora, fauna, and geology, Santa Cruz Island resembles a miniature California. The varied landforms of the island support more than 600 plant species in ten different plant communities, from marshes and grasslands to chaparral and pine forests. The island is home to 140 land bird and 11 land mammal species, three amphibian and five reptile species, and large colonies of nesting seabirds, breeding seals and sea lions, to name a few. The island is also rich in cultural history with 9,000 years of Chumash Native American Indian habitation and over 150 years of European exploration and ranching. Trip includes escorted round trip motor coach transportation, boat transportation, guided walk, snacks and bottled water. Driver gratuity is not included. Bring your own lunch or purchase lunch prior to boarding.
Register on-line, or for more information, please contact the Education Department at 760-346-5694, ext. 2506 or send an email to cjanson@livingdesert.org.
