Director of Education Engagement

The Living Desert Zoo & Gardens in Palm Desert, CA, is conducting a nationwide search to fill the key leadership role of Director of Education Engagement. We are looking for an energetic and enthusiastic professional who values conservation education to initiate, lead and manage all aspects of public education at The Living Desert including onsite interpretation, outreach programs, school programs, volunteers and community engagement. Reporting directly to the President/CEO, The Director of Education Engagement provides oversight to department managers to maximize quality, effectiveness and revenue for all programs and services.

The Director of Education Engagement manages department employees, collaborates with other division heads and department managers, and supports the President/CEO. This position is one of eight senior managers on the Park leadership team. Come and be a part of a great organization that has been working to conserve desert plants and animals for 5 decades!

Important skills associated with this position include:

· Being able to plan, build and lead a Team delivering effective educational programming for the zoo of the future

· Project management for educational services and products to transform how the public thinks about the natural world

· Develops and conducts evaluation research on education programs, including curricula, visitors’ engagement and effectiveness

· Modern management and business practices

· Exceptional leadership and interpersonal relations

· Excellent written and verbal communications, with outstanding public presentation skills

The ideal candidate will have experience in leading a team and exceeding expectations. Will be highly adaptable, forward thinking and committed to preserving our natural heritage. The ideal candidate will have an undergraduate degree (or higher) with course work in communications, education and /or management, as well as a minimum of ten years applicable experience; experience may substitute for all or part of educational qualification. Must hold or obtain a valid California driver’s license and be insurable under The Living Desert’s automobile policy.
