World Disability Day

Saturday, December 3rd from 9:00am-3:00pm

The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens is pleased to announce that World Disability Day Coachella Valley will be observed on Saturday, December 3rd from 9:00am-3:00pm at The Living Desert. World Disability Day aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights, and well-being of those with disabilities. This year’s event will bring together several local organizations, such as SoCal Adaptive Sports and Desert Recreation District, and resources that help to promote the capabilities of people with disabilities. There will also be a number of games and activities in the park for attendees.

This year's theme, “Not All Disabilities are Visible,” will highlight how some disabilities, like mental health disorders and chronic pain and fatigue, are invisible but that does not make them any less devasting to someone’s quality of life.

Did you know? The Living Desert Zoo is a certified Sensory Inclusive™ facility, through KultureCity, and has received designation as a Certified Autism Center™ by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES). Year-round, guests at the Zoo can check out resource bags designed for those with sensory needs. These complimentary bags contain fidget tools, noise-canceling headphones, and a map of the park that designates loud, crowded, smelly, or dark places, as well as interactive areas, "headphone zones," and quiet places. If you'd like to check out a sensory bag on your next visit, stop by Admissions or Guest Services and we'd be happy to help you.

This event is free for members or with paid park admission. One caregiver accompanying a person with a disability is eligible for complimentary admission.
