ZooCamp is the place for your budding naturalist to have some wild fun while exploring the natural world. ZooCampers will be enthralled by special activities, arts and crafts, behind-the-scenes experiences, and animal encounters that can only be found at The Living Desert.


Summer ZooCamp

Select Weeks: June 13 - July 29, 2022 (Monday - Friday); Drop-off is between 7:30 - 8:00am; Camp program runs from 8:00am - 12:00pm daily.

5-6 years old

Sensing the Desert - June 13-17; July 11-15  - SOLD OUT

It just rained. Close your eyes. What do you hear? What can you smell? Now open your eyes. What do you see? During this week of camp, we will use our senses to explore our native landscapes and discover how some of our local animals use their senses to survive the desert extremes!

Journey Into Imagination - June 27- July 1; July 25-29 - SOLD OUT

We've all heard of unicorns, but have you ever seen one? What about fairies, dragons, and other fantastic beasts? During this week of camp, campers will learn about the real-life desert animals that inspired mythical creatures through exclusive encounters and behind-the-scenes experiences.

Hop, Slither, Climb - July 25-29  - SOLD OUT

Learn how desert animls move in and around their unique desert habitats! Throughout this week of interactive camp activities and up-close animal experiences, campers will discover some of the unique adaptations desert animals have to hop, slither, climb, and move around.

7-8 years old

Destination: Exploration! - June 13-17; July 11-15 - SOLD OUT

Deserts cover more than one-fifth of the Earth's land area, but what about the rest of the world? From the sweltering desert to the frozen tundra; from the dense, leafy rainforest to the depths of the ocean, we're going on a worldwide adventure! Join us as we explore the planet's different habitats and learn about the amazing wildlife that calls them home.

Animal MythBusters - June 20-24; July 18-22  - SOLD OUT

Can frogs give you warts? Do possums hang upside down by their tails? Are bats really blind? Come with us a we test out some famous animal misconceptions. Campers will explore the scientific process as they develop hypotheses, conduct experiments, and discover the truth about some of the world's most prevalent animal myths!

Zoo Scene Investigators - The Canine Conspiracy - June 27- July 1; July 25-29 - SOLD OUT

There's a mystery at the zoo! The Mexican Wolves were surveying their habitat when they noticed something strange...The peccary saw a mysterious shadow. The peninsular pronghorn heard a suspicious sound. Even the meerkats smelled something in the wind. Follow the clues as you find out more about the animals and discover the answers to this "who done it" at the zoo!

9-10 years old

Zoo Designers - June 13-17; July 11-15- SOLD OUT

Discover all that goes into designing safe and enriching habitats for our animals! During this week of camp, campers will undergo unique behind-the-scenes experiences to learn all about habitat design, tackle engineering challenges, and then build their own scale model habitat for an animal at the zoo!

Presenting the Wild - June 20-24 - SOLD OUT; July 18-22 

What do the Wild Kratts, the Irwins, and Sir David Attenborough all have in common? They're all famous nature documentary hosts! During this weeks of camp, campers will become the hosts of their own wildlife TV shows. Through fun-filled activities and content-quizzing challenges, campers will practice their show host skills and ultimately give an engaging performance in front of the camera.

11-12 years old

Junior Zookeeper - June 20-24; July 18-22  - SOLD OUT

If you've ever considered working with animals, invite you to sign up for this career-based week of camp, in which we'll explore all that goes into keeping our animals happy and healthy. Throughout the week, campers will visit unique behind-the-scenes areas, meet and interview professional animal keepers, and even have a chance to participate in a training session with one of our animals.

Junior Field Conservationist - June 27 - July 1 - SOLD OUT

Desert conservation is the mission of The Living Desert, but what does a professional conservationist do? During this career-based week of camp, campers will learn all about conservation as a profession through unique behind-the-scenes visits and interactions with our conservation team. Campers will even have a chance to participate in one of our current conservation projects!

Cancellation/Refund Policy

For all cancellations initiated more than two (2) weeks prior to the start of the session, a 50% refund will be issued.

For all cancellations initiated two (2) weeks less or prior to the start of the session, NO REFUND will be issued. This includes partial refunds if a participant does not complete the entire ZooCamp session.

Campers must be registered in the correct age group. Campers who are a different age than the camp requirements may be asked to leave the program. No refund will be issued to campers registered for an incorrect age group. When possible, a session transfer can be granted on a case-by-case basis.

Forfeited fees may be considered a donation for tax purposes.
