The Living Desert Zoo and Garden’s President/CEO Allen Monroe recently announced that park attendance this past fiscal year (July 1, 2016 – June 30, 2017) reached an all-time-high and surpassed last year’s record by more than 12,300 visitors. Admission guest count during the period exceeded 420,400 visitors, setting a record for the fourth straight year.

“I couldn’t be more proud of this zoo and want to thank the community for supporting The Living Desert throughout the year,” said Monroe. “We are a conservation organization that is dedicated to preserving endangered species, and every time someone visits or attends a special event, they help further our mission.”

While most widely known for its native and exotic animals and desert gardens, The Living Desert also hosts popular annual events and festivities that contributed to the zoo’s rising attendance, many of which drew record-breaking crowds. New this past year, the zoo celebrated Year of the Cheetah with special events aimed at educating the public about the plight of the endangered cheetah.

The Living Desert is an independent, non-profit organization that relies on ticket sales, annual gifts and philanthropic support for the educational programs that benefit the residents and visitors to the Coachella Valley.

“This year we have even more educational and entertaining events planned, and invite everyone to participate and help make it yet another record breaking year,” said Monroe.

The Living Desert is open daily through September 30 from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and October 1 to May 30 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information about upcoming events and activities, please call (760) 346-5694 or visit www.LivingDesert.org.
