Coffee and Conservation: Saving Cinereous Vultures in Mongolia’s Gobi Desert
Saturday, May 2, 9:00-10:00am
Location: Rhino Savanna Conservation Station
Enjoy your morning coffee with The Living Desert’s Curator of Conservation – Mongolia, Gana Wingard. She will share how long-term science is helping protect cinereous vultures, one of the world’s most vital and threatened scavengers who play a critical role in ecosystems by preventing the spread of disease. This talk highlights a major milestone: 20 years of cinereous vulture research at Mongolia’s Ikh Nart Nature Reserve. Learn how researchers monitor 560+ nests each breeding season and wing-tag young vultures before they fledge and migrate to South Korea for the winter. You’ll also hear how The Living Desert staff and volunteers served as Desert Defenders, helping produce 220 wing tags used in Mongolia, proving that conservation success is powered by community.
Come for the coffee, leave inspired by conservation in action.
