Desert Tortoise Celebration Day

Slow down and appreciate the California state reptile on Saturday, September 28 at The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens.

Park guests are invited to join us from 10:00am to 12:00pm at the Living Legacy Garden for tortoise-themed activities, conservation conversations, and more!

During the morning you’ll be able to…

  • Enjoy a special desert tortoise Keeper Connection
  • Stock up on native plants and tortoise forage at the Appel Gift Shop
  • Bring the kids for special games and coloring activities
  • And answer trivia questions to win prizes

Guests will also have opportunity to talk to The Living Desert’s Conservation Team and several of our desert tortoise conservation partners to learn about the collective efforts to protect desert tortoise and how YOU can help. Representatives from the following conservation organizations will be present: US Fish & Wildlife Service, the Desert Tortoise Recovery Office, Mojave Desert Land Trust, National Parks Service, Native American Land Conservancy, Friends of the Desert Mountains, Transition Habitat Conservancy, and The Living Desert!

This event is free for members or with paid park admission
