Zookeeper Academy is back!

This career-based camp will offer a thorough exploration of zookeeping roles. Through engaging activities, campers will delve into animal nutrition, behavior, habitat design, and conservation management, gaining valuable insight into the field.

K-1: Critter Crafters
Description: Embark on a creative journey, letting your imagination run wild by designing your own unique animal using various art mediums! Through hands-on activities, up close animal encounters, and interactive lessons, campers dive into the fascinating world of animal creation- exploring the intricate details of physical adaptations, diet, habitat, and more. In this three-day camp, campers will learn how different environmental factors shape animal characteristics, encourage a deeper understanding of biodiversity and conservation, and gain a newfound appreciation of the natural world around us!
2-3: Animal Tales
Description: Discover the power of storytelling amidst the wonders of our zoo in this art-themed camp!  Stories are told in a variety of ways, from spoken words to paintings and sculptures, in this three-day camp we will explore a captivating selection; both the mythical creatures of folklore and the real-life heroes of conservation. Through interactive crafts, engaging activities, and up-close animal encounters, campers will become storytellers, spreading creative stories and the message of compassion and stewardship for our planet in their own unique way.
4-6: Eco-Expression

Description: Unleash your creativity while making a positive impact on the planet! In this three-day camp, campers will explore the intricate connection between art and conservation. From nature-inspired creations to upcycled masterpieces, our camp blends the beauty of artistic expression with the urgency of environmental stewardship. Join us for this artistic journey where every art piece tells a story of sustainability!



Cancellation/Refund Policy

  • Cancellations made 14+ days prior: $115 non-refundable deposit, remainder will be refunded.
  • Cancellations made less than 14 days prior are not eligible for a refund.

Check-In & Check-Out

Camp check-in will take place at the Education Gate, located at the far north end of the parking lot. Signage and Education staff will be present to help you find your way.

Check-in will begin 15 minutes prior to when camp instruction is scheduled to start. Pre-activities will take place before instruction begins. We kindly ask all parents and guardians to exit the Education Gate by camp start time.

NEW: Pick-up Policy

After our 15-minute grace period, a fee of $15 per individual will be charged for every 15 minutes that a camper remains at the zoo beyond the designated pick- up time. The total pick-up time allocated by staff is 30 minutes, consisting of 15 minutes before camp ends and 15 minutes.

Tips for Success!

All participants need to come equipped for outdoor exploration and play! Please bring sunscreen, a hat, close-toed shoes, a refillable water bottle, and a snack with your camper’s name clearly labeled on it.

The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens follows health recommendations from the California Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for the health and safety of our animals, staff, volunteers, and guests. All staff and campers are required to follow the recommended guidelines set forth by the county and state.
