Desert Tortoise Celebration 2022

Slow down and appreciate the California state reptile on Saturday, October 1st at The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens.

Park guests are invited to join us from 10:00am to 12:00pm at the Living Legacy Garden for tortoise-themed activities, conservation conversations, a native plant sale, and more!

During the morning you'll be able to...

  • Enjoy a special desert tortoise Keeper Connection
  • Stock up on native plants and tortoise forage at the Appel Gift Shop
  • Bring the kids for special games and coloring activities
  • And answer trivia questions to win tortoise themed prizes

Guests will also have opportunity to talk to The Living Desert's Conservation Team and several of our desert tortoise conservation partners to learn about the collective efforts to protect desert tortoise and how YOU can help. Representatives from the following conservation organizations will be present: California Turtle and Tortoise Club (CTTC), U.S. Fish and Wildlife, Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians, National Park Service, College of the Desert, Bureau of Land Management, California Department of Parks and Recreation, and Saving Slowpoke.

This event is free for members or with paid park admission.
