World Desert Day

Saturday, January 10

9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Free with membership or paid park admission
Saturday, January 10, 9:00am-1:00pm

Two years ago, The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens launched a global movement to celebrate these remarkable desert ecosystems, founding World Desert Day, held each year on the second Saturday in January. Last year, the day was officially recognized by the State of California, and recently, a bill was introduced to Congress to nationally recognize the day. And YOU can join in too!

Celebrate the deserts of the world – along with all the flora and fauna that call them home – at The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens on January 10, 2026 from 9:00am to 1:00pm. Explore our gardens with special guided tours, meet animal and conservation experts, get up-close with desert wildlife, and discover the hidden wonders that make deserts extraordinary. This event also features desert-themed cocktails, specialty food items, and a desert plant sale!

It’s a day to look beyond the sand and see deserts for what they truly are: thriving, dynamic ecosystems.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

10:00- Garden Tour at the Mojave Garden
11:00- Cooking Demonstration
11:30- Garden Tour at the Upper Colorado Garden

Thank you to the generosity of our friend and supporter Susan Cooper who sponsored this event.
