This national recognition reflects the work our team does every day to provide exceptional animal care, create engaging guest experiences, and advance conservation efforts that support species both locally and globally. We’re proud of the habitats we’ve built, the education programs we deliver, and the meaningful conservation partnerships we continue to grow.
These nominations also help bring broader awareness to the importance of desert conservation and the species that rely on these unique ecosystems. As a nonprofit organization that receives no ongoing tax support, every visit, vote, and donation directly supports our animal care, educational programming, habitat improvements, and field conservation initiatives.
Today, The Living Desert is home to more than 600 animals representing over 130 desert-adapted species. Each year, we welcome more than half a million guests and strive to create memorable, hands-on experiences that foster lasting connections with wildlife. In addition to the work done here on our campus, we currently manage 105 active conservation projects across 12 countries, collaborating with local communities to protect desert habitats and wildlife.
